In order to build up a record of our local bird populations, the Conservation Group is undertaking a series of seasonal 'Bird Walks'. The first such walk took place in February 2009. The route taken starts outside the Catholic church on South Stoke Road, passes down through Dean Wood, and then between the hedgerows and into the open country beyond Dean Farm; the return is by the same route.
It thus encompasses our three main local habitats, indicated as 'A', 'B', and 'C' on the lists of birds seen:
A: The village edge
B: The Chiltern beechwoods
C: The hedgerows and open fields of the Chiltern escarpment.
